Recently acquired by American energy giant NRG, Goal Zero is a manufacturer of portable solar-powered batteries, power packs, generators, and devices such as lanterns and flashlights. It aims to provide portable solar power to every human on earth. The company was founded in June 2009 by Robert Workman, a humanitarian that has been in field missions in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), where the first portable solar power pack was tested in 2008. Initially named GoBe, it’s a simple yet ingenious system composed of a battery, solar panel, and LED light that has delivered precious lighting and improved the safety and economic lives of the villagers in DRC. That product is now popularly known as Goal Zero Yeti 150.
Goal Zero has donated millions of dollars worth of much-needed portable power, solar panels and lights to areas without power in the aftermath of the 2010 Haiti earthquake, 2011 Japan earthquake, 2012 Hurricane Sandy, and 2013 Typhoon Haiyan. Aside from providing power and lighting, its devices has been invaluable in powering the communications of emergency responders and organizations during relief efforts. Its charitable works also extends in different parts of the world through its partnerships with various organizations.
Goal Zero products are hugely popular with adventurers, mountaineers, and outdoor enthusiasts to power up their mobile devices like smartphones, tablets, and GoPros.
